John Mark Matushek, Age:73

John Mark Matushek passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2026.  He was born on February 10, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois to John Walter Matushek and Kathleen Gemmell Matushek.  In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by sisters Mary Cecile and Lynn Louise.

John is survived by his wife of 41 years, Juanita McHenry Matushek, and son and daughter-in-law Michael and Catherine Schilling Matushek.  He is also survived by sisters Joan Ford, Diane Britton, Nancy Abdo, Marian Abrams and brothers Scott, Kurt, Matthew, and Keith Matushek.

John graduated from the University of Chicago in 1975 and entered the computer industry soon afterwards.  He moved to Dallas in 1980 and worked for Hogan Systems, Picasso Software and CSC until retiring in 2016.

John enjoyed many things throughout his life.  He was a Boy Scout leader and volunteered as a band parent at Shepton High School and Plano West Senior High School.  He loved traveling the world with Juanita and, after retirement, discovered a passion for woodturning.  John sold his creations at several craft fairs throughout the Plano and Frisco area and especially enjoyed making and gifting pieces to family members who requested them.

Juanita and Michael would like to thank Lifted Hospice of Plano for their compassionate care and support of John during the last two weeks of his life.

A celebration of John’s life will be held in the new year.

Because of John’s love of lions, tigers and all big cats, donations in his memory may be made to In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue, 3430 Skyview Drive, Wylie, TX  75098 or to a charity of your choice.

Juanita and family, please accept my condolences. I worked with John at Picasso Software. We was an incredible technical architect and a great friend. We remained in contact throughout the years after Picasso. I will miss our lunches and reading about his adventures he posted in great detail on Facebook. Rest in peace John. You will be missed.

We are so saddened to hear of John’s passing. Truly, John was one of the kindest men I ever had the pleasure of working with and knowing. Being a co-leader in scouts I learned so much…… from his amazing baking skills at Christmas with the boys, to learning about the Bernoulli principle …(how airplanes takeoff) to making catapults at your house. He was so patient and kind. Our love and hugs to all of you…. Jeff and Kristi ❤️❤️❤️❤️
